Joy

Oil on canvas 500 x 600

Pointillist Technique

I couldn’t resist painting this gorgeous Aboriginal boy who reminded me of my wonderful childhood growing up on the island of East New Britain, PNG. Spending many joyous hours with my “Tolai” friends wrestling and frolicking in the sea. These boys often had striking blond hair contrasting beautifully with their black skin.

Pointillism portrait of singer song writer Archie Roach

Archie

Oil on canvas 900 x 1000

Pointillist Technique

Inspired to paint Archie Roach as a young emerging artist after I saw his sensational and inspiring performance (with the aid of oxygen) at the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne 2020. Took inspiration from a photo by Martin Philboy and added a few bits (background & guitar design). On the guitar is the title from one of his famous albums (describes the sad and terrible injustice inflicted on aboriginal people by the Australian government) designed by his long time partner Ruby Hunter.

Celebrating my son’s 21st (Charlton) I’ve composed an image of him rising up from the sea depths as a young man in Greece....& then framed within his goggles is himself as a six year old fascinated by the majesty of butterflies. A homage to his beautiful kind soul & his love for the outdoors & adventurous spirit.

Happy 21st Birthday mate.
